AmeriCorps VISTA
AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.

As a former member of the AmeriCorps VISTA program, I served as the Community Outreach Coordinator at Indy Hunger Network (IHN) in Indianapolis, Indiana. IHN is a collective impact organization composed of leading anti-hunger organizations working together to make a hunger-free Indianapolis. IHN and partner organizations collaborate to regularly identify opportunities to build a more efficient and effective food assistance system. During my year of service, I built capacity for a multi-state food recovery program, built community partnerships for the expansion of a food resource platform, and to bring awareness to both local and federal food assistance programs.
Conservation Corps
Conservation Corps are locally-based organizations that engage young adults and veterans in service projects that address recreation, conservation, disaster response, and community needs.
American Conservation Experience (ACE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing rewarding environmental service opportunities for youth, young adults, and emerging professionals of all backgrounds to explore and improve public lands while gaining practical professional experience. ACE's AmeriCorps Conservation Crew Members serve in professionally supervised teams as they explore future outdoor careers, learn practical field skills, and develop confidence as emerging leaders in the field of conservation. Working alongside staff from the National Park Service, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and many other public land agencies, members gain invaluable career perspectives and mentorship in a variety of areas. During my time with ACE, I provided technical assistance and cultivated relationships with a multitude of state, local, and federal agencies to collaborate on projects focused on erosion prevention, hydrological restoration, and trail maintenance.
